Sheffield Counselling Practice
Hello, my name is Claire Wood, and I have a Sheffield counselling practice offering support in the S11 and S6 postcode areas.
Individuals can come too me for face to face counselling, I also offer clinical supervision to practicing counsellors.
The aim of my practice is to give you a safe space where you can be yourself and discuss the difficulties which have brought you to counselling.
My experience has proven that counselling can give you somewhere to share and discuss problems.
This can help us to develop different perspectives and develop new, more helpful ways of responding to issues.
I also work as a part time clinical manager for a local eating disorders support charity, which is an area of mental health I feel very passionately about.
I can give support in all areas of mental health, including anxiety problems, phobias, relationship issues and physical and mental abuse, as well as many others.
Some of the emotions and situations we experience can be hard to live with, and I understand that.
Part of the work we do may be to help strengthen your understanding and resilience to life’s difficulties.
I have worked in mental health services since 2007 after my interest in supporting others led me away from retail management.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) I practice to the standards set within their ethical framework.
I have worked as a counsellor for charities, the independent sector and been in private practice since 2010.
Been born and bred in Sheffield I have a deep connection to the city.
There are many things I love about being here and the access to green space and open countryside on the doorstep rank highly for me.
I'm interested in the connection between mind and body and how this relates to our wellbeing.
Yoga is something I practice regularly (always practicing never perfecting) as one way of looking after myself.
This helps me mentally, helping me be more mindful and helping to take care of my body.
I have a long history of working as a senior manager which has included leadership within mental health inpatient treatment.
I have experience of providing clinical supervision to counsellors and RMN’s as well as case management for a range of health care workers.
How I Work
The approach I use is integrative which means it is made up of a combination of specific counselling approaches.
These include Person Centred, Cognitive Behavioural and Solution Focused models.
I like to work in this way because it allows me to be flexible to suit your needs.
This method works much better than the one size fits all approach.
I am passionate about the work I do.
Coming to counselling can help people to make positive changes.
We can all be affected by issues from the past and difficulties in the present.
It is not unusual to feel low, anxious, stressed or confused sometimes.
We may have a lack of confidence or have ways of behaving which trouble us.
Talking to a counsellor can help begin to face and start to change some of these problems.
What To Expect
Sessions are usually 50 minute slots and happen weekly.
The first session will be an initial consultation.
We will discuss your specific needs and we can start to decide what your aims for an outcome might be.
I will explain more about the way I work and you will have a chance to ask me questions to help you decide if you want to begin counselling with me.
This might mean short, medium, or longer term work, and we will decide this between us.
It does not matter if at first you are unsure about what you want to change or resolve, again, we can discuss and decide upon this between us.
I tend to meet my clients at the same day and time every week, it’s important that you attend sessions regularly to get the most out of them.
Where you can commit to regular sessions you will be more likely to achieve the outcomes you are looking for.
Even though it is important to have consistent appointments, I do understand that at times this is not possible and I can offer some flexibility where this happens.
