Sheffield Counselling Practice
Hello, I’m Claire a qualified counsellor in Sheffield.
I have a counselling and supervision practice in the S11 and S6 postcode areas.
I provide face to face counselling to individuals from age 16+ seeking support and offer clinical supervision to practicing and trainee counsellors and therapists.
I work with clients with a range of issues including anxiety, low mood, abuse, work issues, life stage dilemmas amongst others.
I also specialise in helping enhance self-esteem, body image, food difficulties and problems with relationships for all genders.
I am passionate about supporting others in overcoming what might be holding them back and finding more helpful ways of managing difficulties.
Counselling provides you with a confidential and supportive space to discover solutions to problems. It can help to alleviate the struggle with emotions and unhelpful thought processes.
You may feel caught up in repeated patterns in your life or be looking to make sense of meaning and purpose and seeking personal growth.
Counselling can help with this.
I understand that some of the emotions and situations we experience can be hard to live with.
Part of the work we do may be to help strengthen your understanding and resilience to life’s difficulties.
I have worked as a counsellor and in mental health services since 2007 after my interest in supporting others led me away from retail management.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) I practice to the standards set within their ethical framework.
I enjoy helping people to acknowledge their own strengths.
I recognise it can be difficult to feel enough in today's culture where we are encouraged to measure our worth based on our appearance, the work we do or how ‘busy’ we are.
I value compassion, connection, and acceptance and aim to place this at the basis of my work with you.
I am originally from Sheffield and there are many things I love about the city.
these include the access to green space and having the open countryside on the doorstep.
I'm interested in the connection between mind and body and how this relates to our wellbeing.
Yoga is something I practice regularly (always practicing never perfecting) as one way of looking after my psychological and physical needs.
I am passionate about mental health and have a worked as a senior and clinical manager in services providing support in the voluntary sector and overseeing the operation of inpatient eating disorder treatment.
I have experience of providing clinical supervision to counsellors as well as case management for a range of healthcare workers including occupation therapists and mental health nurses.
The approach I use is integrative which means I am trained in a combination of specific counselling approaches.
I like to work in this way because it allows me to be flexible to suit your needs.
My approach sees you as the expert in your own life and aims to help you gain new perspectives and move away from difficulties.
I will share tools that may help you to do this.
I draw upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused techniques, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness to help support clients.
My additional training includes approaches to support people experiencing a range of eating/food difficulties including binge eating, purging and restrictive eating and overcoming problems with body image and over exercising.
We can all be affected by issues from the past and difficulties in the present.
It is not unusual to feel low, anxious, stressed or confused sometimes.
We may have a lack of confidence or have ways of behaving which trouble us.
Coming to counselling can help begin to face and start to change some of these problems.
What To Expect
Sessions are usually 50 minute slots and happen weekly.
The first session will be an initial consultation.
We will discuss your specific needs and we can start to decide what your aims for an outcome might be.
I will explain more about the way I work and you will have a chance to ask me questions to help you decide if you want to begin counselling with me.
This might mean short, medium, or longer term work, and we will decide this between us.
It does not matter if at first you are unsure about what you want to change or resolve, again, we can discuss and decide upon this between us.
I tend to meet my clients at the same day and time every week, it’s important that you attend sessions regularly to get the most out of them.
Where you can commit to regular sessions you will be more likely to achieve the outcomes you are looking for.
Even though it is important to have consistent appointments, I do understand that at times this is not possible and I can offer some flexibility where this happens.
